Swim Team Basics
Pre-Team
Our youngest Whales, generally ages 4-6, are on the pre-team. These swimmers practice in the shallow end and may still be working on becoming acclimated to the water. Basic skills are taught through a variety of games. The emphasis is on feeling comfortable and confident in the water while working on basic kicking and arm strokes.
Development Team
For swimmers who are generally ages 7-10 and who are not quite ready for practicing successive lengths in the main lap lane area, we hold practice in a 3 1/2 to 4 foot deep area of the pool. The emphasis is on freestyle, backstroke, and breathing. The goal for these Whales is to compete in a B Meet by the end of the season.
Traditional Swim Team
Practice for older swimmers includes swimming multiple lengths during practice in the lap lanes. Swimmers are practicing all 4 strokes. The lap lanes are differentiated by age and ability to provide the best practice for each swimmer regardless of experience.
